Comment Policy
Welcome to Rosetta Stones! Hopefully, you’ll be joining us for many interesting and fruitful discussions. Before you begin commenting, please take a moment to acquaint yourself with the guidelines.
- Be constructive in discussions with your fellow commenters. If you want to contribute criticism or correct a factual error, use your tact.
- Back up your points with links to reputable sources. This is key if you’re discussing anything that’s not broadly accepted, is not well known outside of particular disciplines, or is cutting edge.
- Always be learning. Take advantage of the links and suggestions for search terms fellow commenters provide you.
- Pseudoscience is not allowed. If you want to make a case for creationism, flat earth, geocentrism, conspiracy theories, astrology, alternative medicine, or anything else outside of mainstream science, you’ll need to do that in your own space.
- Be kind about grammar, spelling, and typos. You can ask for clarification if a typo or grammatical error confuses you, but don’t jump in to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, or quirks. Keep in mind that many of these mistakes are caused by neurological differences, and inclusiveness is far more important than perfection.
- Want to go off-topic? Great! There will be open threads for that – please use them instead of derailing a thread.
- Promote yourself wisely. Shameless self promotion is welcome in Shameless Self Promotion threads, or in threads where your book, post, paper, article, art, or other item is quite relevant to the subject at hand. If you’re afraid it’ll be obnoxious, you can run it by me first.
- Don’t use slurs. These include gendered, ableist, racial, and homophobic/transphobic slurs. Commenters using slurs may be banned without warning.
- Use content warnings or notes for sensitive subjects or common phobias (bodily fluids, insects, etc). If someone advises you to add a content note, please do so.
- Racism, bigotry, harassment, trolling, JAQ-ing off, and other misbehavior will not be tolerated. Commenters engaging in these behaviors may be summarily banned. Please note that bad behavior elsewhere may get you banned here, even if you behave yourself in this space.
- If someone has you blocked elsewhere, leave them alone here. Don’t use this or other of my spaces to force contact. Respect their desire to not interact with you.
- If you inadvertently harm someone, apologize and correct your behavior. We all screw up from time to time. Be willing to educate yourself, and do better.
- Contact the Admin for any issues. If someone is attacking, harassing, or otherwise causing issues in a thread, please contact me so I can take care of the situation.
- Always fight fascists.
- If you don’t agree with the rules, you have options. Remember: you are welcome not to participate in comment threads if these rules are not to your liking. This is my blog, not a free speech zone.
